It is not working harder, “bashing away” at something which gets us results but being in the flow and allowing what needs to happen to unfold effortlessly. When we are in our head – over thinking, agonising, worrying – we are “muddying the waters” of our mind and disturbing the clarity so…what to do to allow the clarity to come to the surface? The greatest inventors, creators, business leaders, visionaries have all found their answers in this quiet space.

Relaxation, meditation, quiet contemplation and joy are all the keys here. Anything which completely absorbs the mind and effectively blocks out the day to day noise helps you to tap into the source of all the answers. As Deepak Chopra says:

Meditation is not a way of making your mind quiet. It’s a way of entering into the quiet that’s already there—buried under the 50,000 thoughts the average person thinks every day”. - Deepak Chopra

Why is any of this relevant when I’m a food coach and I specialise in helping people to find or regain the body they want and love? Well, I believe that the only way for us to have success with this IS to work holistically. How can you introduce this easily into your life if it isn’t something you are in the habit of doing?

Relaxation:

Make a list of 100 things you love to do – little things to big things, things that take a few minutes to things that might take days (or more). Keep adding to the list until you get to 100… It could be a walk in the woods, a relaxing bath, a glorious concert, reading a good book – it just has to be things YOU love to do.

Then – do at least 1 each day and start to notice the difference

Meditation:

A lot of people think it is hard to meditate, to clear your mind of thoughts and sit and “Om” for hours on end. But it doesn’t need to be like that. There are so many great meditations that are easy to access – right now Oprah and Deepak Chopra are running a 21 Day Meditation Challenge (which I am following along with 1/4 million people around the globe!) and it is very accessible. Other ones I like are Tony Quinn, Neale Donald Walsch and Paul Scheele – none of these is traditional meditation but has many of the same benefits. Paul Scheele does a 10 Minute Supercharger which is a great boost and Neale Donald Walsch has an app for daily Conversations With God which is excellent.

Quiet Contemplation:

Truly being in the moment and allowing yourself to be absorbed in it has the same benefits as meditation, indeed it is a form of meditation. This can be walking and taking in the beauty around, listening to beautiful music, enjoying a shower, cooking or making love

Joy is what comes as a result of this inner peace, this quiet place, as Oprah alludes to:

“I define joy as a sustained sense of well-being and internal peace – a connection to what matters.”Oprah Winfrey

So, if you want to lose weight, feel better, look better, have success in any or all areas of your life, experience bliss… Relax! Ahh… that feels better don’t you think?

with love

  1. Thank You Karen! Great reminders and links to access. It’s far too easy to get ‘caught up’ in the fast-pace day-to-day life doing what we think matters but doesn’t attract inner happiness or peace. Meditation as a daily habit allows our brain to relax, re-charge and rejuvenate.

  2. I have discovered painting to be my form of meditation now and I love it. Great article Karen, thanks for sharing
