2015 balloons FDPNew Year Resolutions are a nightmare! For most people the same things go back on the list year in, year out, year after year after year…

And by now, at the beginning of February they are a distant memory or a nagging sense of failure – not very inspiring or healthy. The balloons popped a long time ago.

It’s depressing just thinking about it since it proves the strategy isn’t working. And when one definition of madness is “to keep on doing what you’ve always done and expect different results” then…oh dear we’re diving into madness.

This isn’t to say that goal setting, targets, visions and more doesn’t work because they do but they need to be done in a certain way in order for them to be powerful enough to work.

Let’s say you have a weight loss goal (since this is a common one). Say your weight is 85 kilos/187 lbs and you want to be 75 kilos/165 lbs.

Typically the focus is on how much you want to lose so when you are goal setting you’d focus on losing 10 kilos/22 lbs and then you’ll be happy.

Turn it round. Completely.

Do it this way and see how you get on

  • When goal setting decide on your primary goal, let’s use the example above
  • Then, get yourself in a very relaxed state – listen to music, go for a walk, do a meditation anything that relaxes you
  • In this relaxed state allow yourself to imagine what it is like having achieved your target weight/size – how it feels, how you look, use all your senses to create an incredibly detailed word picture (and even actual picture) of this. What are you doing, how are you connecting with people, what is around….write it all down, load it with sensory detail.
  • Bring this picture to mind several times a day, say it out loud,  and in between times use affirmations stating how good you feel now you are 75 lbs etc etc

It is simple but powerful. Have a go if your goal setting for your New Year Resolutions has gone out of the window. No need to wait for a special date just do it now, today.

Have a go. Statistics show that written goals are most powerful but…it is the emotional imprint on your subconscious that will make the difference between success and “failure” if you want to call it that – personally I don’t believe in failure but in this context I know a lot of people who do so the word is relevant.

Let me know how you get on!

with love as always
